The Project

  • The aims of the award are: to link secondary schools and feeder primaries; to promote enjoyment in reading; to extend reading choices; to assist in transition.
  • Copies of books are available in every participating school for nominated groups to borrow, read, discuss and review
  • Every year pupils post reviews, comments and votes on website by late June.
  • All pupils and teachers meet in late June to celebrate the winning book


The 2012 Award

  • 2012 was the sixth year of the award
  • The winning book was The Brilliant World of Tom Gates by Liz Pichon
  • Sixteen schools took part
  • Over seventy reviews were posted
  • Winners from each school won prizes and certificates.
  • Two students from each school took part in the Critics' Choice event where they discussed the literary merits of each book and decided which should win the Critics' Choice Award. The Brilliant World of Tom Gates by Liz Pichon was their chosen winner
  • Brave New Girl author Catherine Johnson attended the Critics' Choice event
